WITH THE PEOPLE
Words and Music by Kevn Kinney
Radon Notes
“With the People” dates back to early days of Drivin’ N Cryin’, the rock band Kevn Kinney established in Atlanta in 1985. Kevn very graciously brought this song to be recorded anew at Radon Recordings and encouraged us to embellish this new recording as we saw fit. So we did! He said it would make a great anthem for liberal causes and we couldn’t agree more. Listen to these lyrics that unfortunately still ring true. And let us add that Kevn Kinney is the coolest, most generous rock star on planet Earth.

Lyrics
The carpet maker lays the color of the day
Lost and torn and worn to tears I’m tryin’ to stay awake
Who is it that allows the global pillage that they seek
The blind will only shine in the light
If everyone can meet me halfway
Singing along - it’s a long, long road that we’ve started on
The people of this town must gather ‘round
But the leaders they’ve gotta start this march
And then fall behind to walk with the people
With the people
Sunset city sky - nine o’clock at night
We gather around the square to show them that we care to call
Them to what it is we need - what they believe I need
And what it is I see and what they believe I see
It’s been a long, long wrong but it keeps on goin’ on and on
The people of this town must gather ‘round
But the singer they gotta sing the song
And walk with me and sing with the people
With the people
With the people
His eyebrows raised in a means of disconcern to warn
Come around along again - today his head’s on strong
Stand in line at quittin’ time - head out to city hall
I spend half the night tryin’ to change the world so my kids can live at all
And sing along with these winds
Keep the puppets on their strings
’Cause at least then we’ll know where they are
Someday they may wake up
Someday they may wake up
Someday they may wake up
And walk with me and walk with the people
With the people
With the people
With the people of these united rights
In order to form a more perfect reunion
Find that which binds the common ground
Sometimes have little in common at all
Nothing can be free until you free it
In your own self - in your own mind - in your own time
I believe in the people
And I walk with the people
I believe in the people
With the people
