MADRID
Words and Music by Bubby Reynolds
Radon Notes
Bubby Reynolds came to Radon Recordings as the keyboard player for Trinidadian guitarist Simeon Felicien around 2018. He was also working with a collective of musical artists called We Were Here. See the Dara Carter single for another example of one of their members and a song they recorded together. Each songwriter had their own identity and the others backed them when it was their turn in the spotlight. It’s a rewarding way to work because you get multiple “bands” out of one group of collaborators.
Bubby was eager to get some of his song ideas down on recordings. We recorded a batch of songs, some of which were later re-worked in other studios. This one retains the feel of those first, partially live sessions. I really love the backing vocal parts. This song also gave us a reason to mic up the acoustic piano, which is always fun for us.
Listen to the lyrics and you will hear the inspiration that formed the song. It is faith based but includes dark imagery that keeps it real. In the end, a dream provides a way out and the promise of eternity in heaven. No matter your religious beliefs (or lack thereof) it’s hard to beat the sentiments in this song.
Bubby has other releases on your favorite streaming platform that you should check out. He’s continuously honing his craft. I feel honored that he gave us permission to peek back into the archives and release “Madrid” as an early example of his unique talents.
